NNA COMMISSIONS
There are two Commissions of NNA, along with four standing committees, a Membership Task Force and a Political Action Committee (PAC).
Commission on Nursing Practice and Professional Development
Role:
The role of the Commission on Nursing Practice and Professional Development (NPPD) will be to plan and implement activities related to nursing practice and professional development.
Responsibilities:
The Commission on Nursing Practice and Professional Development shall:
1. promote the application of ANA standards for nursing practice;
2. evaluate relevant scientific and educational developments, changes in health needs and practices, with reference to their implications for continuing nursing education;
3. promote the correlation of educational standards and practice competencies;
4. address and respond to human rights and ethics concerns related to nursing practice, education, and research;
5. promote the Code for Nurses; and
6. promote the utilization of research findings through dissemination of information to all areas of nursing.

Commission on Advocacy and Representation
Role:
The role of the Commission on Advocacy and Representation will be to plan and implement activities related to professional security, client and nurse advocacy and, based on NNA's legislative platform, will represent NNA's positions on state and local concerns.
Responsibilities:
The Commission on Advocacy and Representation shall:
1. receive and disseminate information about workplace issues to the districts and individual members;
2. develop mechanisms which are proactive and responsive to workplace advocacy issues;
3. analyze the implications of federal, state, and local legislation on nursing and health care services for all people;
4. develop and recommend to the House of Delegates a state legislative platform which reflects professional standards and social concerns;
5. promote NNA's legislative positions through dissemination to structural units and individual members;
6. enlist the expertise of individual members to respond to health care issues;
7. communicate NNA's position on legislative issues; and
8. liaison with NNA-PAC and encourage individual and organizational political promotion for public officials who are supportive/responsive to NNA's legislative platform.
General Information about the Commissions
Section 1. Definition
Commissions are elected structural units which plan and implement activities related to the NNA mission at the direction of the NNA Board of Directors.
Section 2. Composition
There will be two commissions. Each shall consist of ten members; two members from the First Congressional District, two members from the Second Congressional District, two members from the Third Congressional District, and four members at-large. Each commission shall elect a chair from its membership. The executive director shall serve as an ex-officio member of each commission.
Section 3. Terms of Office
Commission members shall be elected for two-year terms. The following representatives shall be elected yearly: First Congressional District - one member; Second Congressional District - one member; Third Congressional District - one member; and member-at-large - two members. Members shall serve no more than two consecutive terms.
Section 4. Qualifications
To be eligible to serve on a Commission a person shall hold a current ANA/NNA membership.
Section 5. General Functions
a. Recommend policies and positions to the Board of Directors and the NNA House of Delegates.
b. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the NNA House of Delegates and Board of Directors.
c. Establish a plan of operation for carrying out its responsibilities that is based on specific outcomes.
d. Provide for the dissemination of information and maintain communication with other structural units of NNA.
e. Develop a budget, based on plan of operation.
f. Contribute to the strategic plan of NNA.
g. Develop and maintain working arrangements with other structural units of NNA and with related professional
and community groups as appropriate to the defined responsibilities of the commission.
h. Maintain communications with the ANA and appropriate constituent groups as required to carry out the defined
responsibilities of the Commission.
i. Evaluate trends, developments, and issues affecting individual nurses or groups of nurses in Nebraska.
j. Maintain accountability to the NNA Board of Directors.
Section 6. Meetings
Meetings shall be held on an as needed basis, at the discretion of the chair within budgetary allowances, to conduct the business of the commission. A majority of members shall constitute a quorum.
Section 7. Absences/Resignations
The unexcused absence of a member without good cause from two consecutive meetings of a commission shall constitute a resignation and the vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the NNA Board of Directors in consideration of the individual receiving the next highest number of votes in the last election. Voluntary resignations shall be handled in a like manner.
